BEWARE OF UPSETTING OTHER WEB BUSINESSES

What if you chose a domain name that was similar to another? Do you think that would warrant email threats and excessive retaliation? Would you think badly of a person who purchases mydomainname.com and another who chose my-domain-name.com? Being in marketing, the second is NOT the better choice for getting people to remember your name. You will probably lose many customers. This is similar to a .com versus a .net.

Yet, personally, I don't feel that the hyphenated version is wrong or malicious. And if the owner really wanted every domain name similar or like his, then he should register them all to ensure uniquenss. Why not imydomainname.com, or 1mydomainname.com. Good names will be taken by whomever, for whatever reason. But to verbally attack the second owner, via email, distubing his or her work day is undeniably low and uncalled for.

I am not saying the the name is a trademarked, nationally known name like Coca Cola or Pepsi. It is a every day set of words like How are you? Plus, a hypehnated name can be a marketing nightmare. However, it is everyones right to register those unseeming name-name-name-name.com domain names.

Take for instance a certain Lewis and Clark site. You would think that this site owner would uphold the grace and integrity of what he is trying to sell - Our heritage and American Pride. Yet, due to his lack of Marketing ability - he has been knocked from the top positions. Lewis and Clarks 200th anniversary span over several years and many states. To say that you have a lock on the 200th anniversary, indeed, a trademark, is obsurd.

I believe in marketing the old fashioned way- with hard work and honesty. Something this lewis and clark owner does not. So I applaud the hyphened domain and wish them the best! In the long run - the stronger marketer will prevail. Nastiness will reveal itself to all and the lowlifes will fade away.

EDITOR COMMENTS: The opinions and thoughts expressed in this article were submitted to our editors by Anonymous. We felt that such information warranted printing, and therefore, is why it is on our site. While we are not in the habit of mud-slinging and internet bashing, we do agree that the interent is a site of goods and bads - unfortunately you have to take one with the other.

SOLUTION: If these email bashers bother you emotionally, then have your host company block any emails from the offending sender and go on with your life. If you are not doing anything illegal, then remove the offending emails from your sight.
